We opened Back to Basics Christian Bookstore in February 1989. The idea started with these two questions:
- What does our area need that it doesn't have?
- What is something that will enhance people’s lives and raise the moral fiber of our culture?
As we considered our part, God laid the idea on Bernie’s heart of opening a Christian Bookstore. Many businesses have ups and downs, but our calling has kept us here stalwartly serving the community.
Here is our first bookstore location at 124 East Elm Street:

In 1995 we opened up at our new location on Highway K

We are a destination store. While some shoppers enjoy browsing in a plaza or a mall, our shoppers are often have time constraints and enjoy the convenience of being able to park near the door and have people ready to serve your immediate needs. Our parking lot is designed to get you in and out and on your way to your next event. Shoppers who need handicapped accessible parking particularly like the way our store is designed. The worst parking spot in our parking lot is still quite a bit better than the best parking spot at a mall.
We offer some special services that make our store better than most mass market stores.
- We offer custom name imprinting on your Bible or other book while you wait.
- We can gift wrap or put your purchase in a gift bag for you if so that you can still make it to your event on time.
- We can special order just about anything.
- We have knowledgeable staff who can offer guidance on the right books for your specific needs.
- Here is a little known secret: We have a greater selection of items than you will find most other places. We have over 21,000 items and more coming daily. Many of our customers say they are surprised that we have such a broad selection of so many categories. I guess you can call us “crazy about Christian books”.
- We have incredible specials throughout the store in every category. Some big chain stores make it sound like they have great deals, yet when you get there you find out that it is on only a few items and everything else is inflated. We have a clearance department that is available year round with bargains you won't find anywhere else.

When I need something, you either have it or can order it and that is nice . Hunting down merchandise is a time consumer.
I love the atmosphere also with music playing and nice people to talk to.
Please keep on doing what you are doing because we need to be able to see before we buy as opposed to the Internet.
